Sacred Heart is blessed with organizations that promote prayer and service in both the parish and wider
community. Organizations are listed in alphabetical order and each is linked to its description further
down the page.
Every woman in Sacred Heart Parish is automatically a member of the Altar Society.
Participation in the Altar Society promotes a family spirit in the parish. Meetings are
held the third Sunday in the months of October, January, and March. Every woman's name
is put on a list for a month or "Band". Each month or Band has 2 chairpersons who will
call the people on their list for participation in various activities. Altar Society
functions include serving and helping with the Annual Parish Bazaar, funeral dinners and
receptions. They send cards to people in the hospital, new baby cards to mothers. They
also give to shut-ins at Christmas, clean the church weekly and furnish the flowers for
the altar in church on special occasions. Money for these projects is earned by having
booths at Crazy Days and Pufferbilly Days and at bake sales, also by serving "special"
dinners. Annual social functions include a Christmas party and the Spring Banquet. We
also belong to "Church Women United" in Boone. You are invited to come to the meetings
and become active with the other women in the parish.

The Catholic Women's Study Club was established in February of 1926. The object of this club is to unite the Catholic Women of Boone and vicinity in an
organization to study Church History; to promote literacy and educational interests and
to provide means of social interaction among its members. This group meets monthly in
members' homes to learn about and discuss topics related to the theme for the year.

C.F.M. is a program on marriage and family life designed to be used mainly by couples who
meet together regularly to expand their awareness, deepen their understanding and awaken
their ability to do something about their own lives and lives of others. It is "Christian"
in its concern for people as God's children; "Family" in its focus on basic interpersonal
relationships which build and maintain a truly human society; and "Movement" in its implicit
dedication to action as the source of beneficial change. This is a program written for
members of all denominations who realize that to be a Christian is to be a concerned, loving
and active person.

The Knights of Columbus, Leo Council 814, is a Catholic men's organization which started in Boone
on October 20, 1903 and is a 3rd Degree Council. Many of our service-oriented programs are designed
to benefit the parish and community. A few of these include contributions to the Boone County Disabilities
Program via the annual Tootsie Roll Drive, support of Catholic schools, increasing public awareness of Pro
Life issues and volunteering hundreds of hours each year to community service.
On a national level, programs include the Special State Olympics for Retarded Citizens, support of the
"Birthright" Program and promotion of vocations through education and prayer.
Many of the functions of the Knights of Columbus are family orientated enabling members to involve their
spouses and children. The K.C. meeting room is on the second floor of the Parish Office building and the
meetings are the 1st Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.

As a secular branch of the Carmelite Order, "The Lay Carmelite is a true member of the Order of the
Brethren of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mt. Carmel." The idea of community is stressed and is developed
by regular meetings, study of the needs of individuals and the Church, as well as a "more dynamic witness
to the Life of Christ in personal prayer and the apostolate." The group meets for prayer on Tuesday
evenings in the Church. Check the weekly parish bulletin for time.
